We’re incredibly proud to be one of the few local, independent, family run wholesale fish and seafood supplier in the North West of England. We started out in September 2015 with 14 staff, 4 rental vans, and one customer and have since increased to a team of 55 people, with 14 vans delivering to customers across the North West and Lake District.
Fleetwood was a natural choice for us when setting up our business due to its renowned history within the fishing industry and strong distribution networks. It means we’re able to deliver the freshest quality produce to our customers day in, day out.
Our products are predominantly sourced in UK waters by UK vessels. We have strong connections in Shetland, Scrabster, Peterhead, Brixham and Newlyn. We source our white fish from well-managed fisheries in Iceland and Norway. Fresh, sustainably source fish is all that we know and all that we serve.
When My Fish Company was founded in September 2015, we wanted to create an ethos that would offer a sense of ownership not only for staff but also for customers. When any of the team are asked where they work or what they do, they can answer ‘I work for My Fish Company’ giving every individual a feeling of the business belonging to them. It helps everyone to feel included and take pride in what we are achieving as a team. We feel that when a chef is talking about where he/she buys the fish on the menu from they can say ‘I buy from My Fish Company’ which creates a feeling of partnership between our business and the chef.
Our premises began as a joinery workshop, so underwent a substantial re-fit in 2015 to ensure it was fit for purpose. Our first day of trading was 7th September 2015, where we began the day with 14 members of staff, 4 rental vans and 1 customer- Booths.
Since our establishment in 2015 we’ve increased to 55 members of staff, 14 vans and a solid customer base across the North West and Lake District. We’ve grown as a company but our core values have always stayed the same; people product & passion is at the heart of everything we do.
Following our growth and increased staffing needs, we became aware of the shortage of skilled individuals within our sector. In order to tackle this, we committed ourselves to investing in the future of the industry developing our existing employee’s skills and taking on apprentices. We work in partnership with Blackpool & Fylde College on staff training and development and have two apprentices currently working towards their Seafish Authority NVQ 3 in Fish & Shellfish Production. We also now work with Morrison’s Apprentices and Fish Mongers to help develop the skills needed for counter preparation.
The constant changing seasonality and availability of different species is one of the main reasons Gary loves working in the Fish & Seafood industry. It’s this constant challenge and lack of control over seasonality and availability that keeps Gary and the whole team on their toes to ensure that every fish is prepared accordingly and every customer is aware of the best option for their menu
His contagious passion for the industry is mirrored by the whole team. Gary loves nothing more than seeing some of the freshest, highest quality fish being prepared by people with years of experience who fillet products with a genuine skill and passion that can only be found here at My Fish Company. One of Gary’s main motivations is seeing every individual thriving within the Fish and Seafood industry and watching their passion, enthusiasm, and skills develop them into experienced and valuable members of the My Fish Company team.01253 779813
At My Fish Company we are serious about sharing our passion for the fish industry. For team members this means developing our people through inhouse training. In addition we work in partnership with Blackpool Fylde College supporting the work they do teaching Morrison’s Fish and Seafood Apprentices to develop the skills needed for counter preparation filleting skills. We also work in-house with local retailer Booths to train their fish counter staff in the same way. Customers across the hotel, pub and restaurant sector are welcome to visit us to find out more about how we source and prepare their fish. We love the opportunity to share our knowledge and passion.
